Bohol Ube Project and Process Bohol Inc. Collaboration: Livelihood Project Proposal for Tagbilaran City Government

The Bohol Ube Project Team, in partnership with the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP), Eggzos Consulting, Bohol Ube Growers Association (BUGA), and the Young Farmers Agriculture Cooperative (YFAC), and working closely with Process Bohol Inc, recently presented a Livelihood Project Proposal to the Tagbilaran City Government.

The proposal focuses on one critical priority: scaling the production of ube tubers as the foundational step to strengthening Bohol’s entire ube value chain. This initiative directly supports the broader goals of the Bohol Ube Project, which include:

  • Establishing international market linkages

  • Creating new and sustainable livelihood opportunities through ube production

  • Preserving and promoting Bohol’s heirloom Ube Kinampay along with other varieties of ube grown in Bohol

Why Strengthening Ube Tubers Production Matters

The demand for processed ube products from Bohol particularly the heirloom ube kinampay, continues to grow, especially from buyers in Europe seeking stable and high quality supply. For Bohol to meet this demand, tuber production must increase in volume, consistency, and quality.

By focusing on production at the farmer level, this project aims to:

  • Empower local cooperatives with skills, structure, and support

  • Strengthen land preparation, planting cycles, and supply planning

  • Develop more inclusive livelihood options for communities

  • Ensure the sustainability of Bohol’s iconic agricultural heritage crop

A Future Built on Collaboration

This initiative is a direct response to the needs of international buyers seeking reliable monthly supply of processed ube products. It is also a call to action for Bohol’s agricultural ecosystem to work together to elevate the province’s global presence in the purple yam market.

But this vision requires collaborators, partners, and supporters, from both the public and private sectors, who believe in:

  • Sustainable agriculture

  • Farmer-centered development

  • Heritage crop preservation

  • Rural livelihood innovation

  • Product processing innovation

  • Global market expansion for Filipino products

Let’s Build This Future Together

We invite farmer groups, funders, processors, researchers, development organizations, government agencies, logistics partners, and advocates to collaborate with us. Your involvement can accelerate Bohol’s potential to become a leading exporter of ube products while improving the lives of local farmers.

Together, we can make Bohol’s ube industry sustainable, inclusive, and globally competitive.
