Securing the Future of Bohol’s Ube Kinampay and Its Farmers

At AtoANI, we are honored to collaborate with the European Chamber of Commerce in the Philippines (ECCP), Eggzos Consulting, Bohol Ube Growers Association (BUGA), and Young Farmers Association Cooperative (YFAC) in the preservation and sustainable growth of one of the Philippines’ most treasured heirloom crops: Ube Kinampay, a fragrant, richly colored purple yam that is deeply rooted in Boholano culture and identity.

In collaboration with our committed partners ECCP, Eggzos Consulting, BUGA, and YFAC, we are launching a comprehensive advocacy to protect, promote, and uplift the Ube Kinampay value chain and the hardworking farmers behind it.

A Shared Mission Amplified on a National Stage

We were honored to present this advocacy during the “Nurturing Transformative Change in Philanthropy” Forum, co-organized by Springrain GlobalECCP, and AVPN. The forum focused on Thought Leadership and Social Responsibility, making it a powerful platform to showcase how local agriculture, when supported by strong partnerships and systems thinking, can catalyze long-term impact.

Through this event, we shared our multi-stakeholder approach to:

💜 Protect the genetic and cultural integrity of Bohol’s heirloom Ube Kinampay

🚜 Empower farmer cooperatives through training, enterprise development, and market access

🌱 Promote regenerative agriculture practices to protect the soil and improve climate resilience

📦 Connect farmers to international buyers and create a sustainable export model for ube-based products, particularly ube powder

Why Ube Kinampay, and Why Now?

As global interest in healthy, naturally sourced, and culturally rich food products continues to rise, Bohol’s Ube Kinampay presents a unique opportunity as we are currently in contact with potential customers from Europe requiring significant volume of ube powder to be exported. However, the farmers growing it face challenges in scaling, and accessing markets that recognize its value.

Our advocacy is a call to action: to support the stewards of this heirloom crop, the farmers, ensuring that their knowledge, efforts, and livelihoods are preserved for generations to come.

Let’s Build a Resilient Future Together
